I need to grow my iTunes trove. Song recommendations?
A wide range of musical styles is appreciated, with the exception of country. No offense.
Well, right now I'm really into Emm Gryner, she's sorta indi-rock-pop-ish, if that makes any sense, and Kellie Pickler from American Idol. I think she has the prettyest voice ever! and also, Mariah Carey.
Right now I am really into Wilco - everything, but especially "Heavy Metal Drummer" (the version from Kicking Television). And Snow Patrol (especially "Chasing Cars" and "Chocolate"). I love both of them. I get really into a group for a few weeks and then burn out on it...but while I'm into a CD I'm really into it. Then I move on to something else that's probably not new, but is a new discovery for me :-)
I've gotten a couple of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah songs off iTunes (Yellow Country Teeth and Over and Over Again). Really interesting sound...
The new Belle and Sebastian album "The Life Pursuit" is probably my favorite album of theirs. Definitely worth checking out.
I'm currently into this French artist, Pauline Croze. I really like the song "Mise a Nu".
Right now I'm very much enjoying the new Dixie Chicks CD-Taking the Long Way. I got it the day it came out (May 23) and have listened to it countless times since!

Love Wilco, Teapot! Love! And I just got to hang out with Jeff Tweedy a few weeks ago - such an awesome guy! Random from my iTunes: Snow Patrol, Bright Eyes, Mat Kearney, Travis, Holly Brook, Ryan Adams, The Fray, Alexi Murdoch, the new Ray LaMontagne (which is fabulous), Gomez, Dave Barnes, Stars, James Morrison, Mike Doughty, Zack Hexum, The Shins..... I have too much music, but these are a few that have the hightest playcount lately.
New albums I'm liking:
I am more of a Top 40 type of gal, with spalshes of oldies throw in for good measure. Here is a small sample of my itunes: James Blunt- You're Beautiful, Five for Fighting- 100 Years, Kanye West- Gold Digger, Abba- Dancing Queen, Biz Markie- Just a Friend, Fort Minor- Where'd You Go, Chris Isaak- Wicked Game, Cast of Rent-Seasons of Love, Travis- Sing, Elton John-Tiny Dancer, Dido- White Flag, Rihanna- Unfaithful, KT Turnstall- Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, Shakira- Hips Don't Lie, Frankie Valli- December 1963, Tom Petty- Free Fallin, Nelly Furtado- Promiscuous, Carrie Underwood- Inside Your Heaven, Gwen Stefani- Cool

Imogen Heap - Speak for Yourself (cd) Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs - Show Your Bones(cd - especially the song Cheated Hearts) & Fever to Tell (cd) Aimee Mann - Lost in Space (cd) Beck - Guerolito (cd) Fiona Apple _ all her stuff Matthew Good - Weapon, Song for the Girl, Strange Days The Reputation - To Force a Fate (cd) Zero7 - When it Falls (cd)
Gotta second Two-Hole Punch Jim's recommendation of The Life Pursuit. Great album.
Alright, here we go (with iTunes Music Store links):
Let me know how these recommendations work out for you, garbagethrower. I can put out Volume Two if you'd like to see more.
Awesome list; links even.
Thanks, James, and everyone. I look forward to checking out all the new additions tomorrow (deadlines? what deadlines?)
Here's more to add to your already long list.
Well, I just spent an hour or so checking out recommendations, and I want to thank those who shared. I'm buying new tunes and compiling a playlist that I must name appropriately...NA Mix or something.
James: I'm liking your suggestions (loving some); awaiting V.2.
Just an FYI to anyone else looking for music recommendations, there are a couple threads floating around with great suggestions: Till Death Do Us Rock : Songs that could be in The Office and Shooting the breeze : Non Office-related chatter. Also, Loaded Teapot went the extra mile and put together an iMix of several of the suggested tunes.
Onwards to Volume Two:
James: awesome! You are such a giver. And thanks again for the links.
I will check out the compiled iMix.
i love you but i've chosen darkness---link to great song below
p.s.--my first post!
early with the cue: I like it. Nice vibe. I read your post quickly and thought I was headed for The Darkness; glad I was wrong...
Welcome, by the way.
I've listened to a couple Weird Al Yankovic songs, and they are hilariously funny. I would recommend "The Night Santa Went Crazy" and "Your Horoscope For Today."
Weird Al Yankovic went to my college and got his start on our campus station.
Nice notes on the iMix (LT's work?)
Yes, I believe so. She did an awesome job.
Nice suggestion, early with the cue (and welcome). Those guys are from my hometown. If you like ILYBICD, I recommend that you check out Saxon Shore.

Cool, you went to Cal Poly?
I've gone with a little classical, a little oldies, this past week...The Clash (I have the first album and London Calling, as well as the great singles cd from a few years back).
I'm taking a British History class this summer at college, and on the first day the instructor handed out a packet with, among other things, some Clash lyrics. I realized it had been a while since I listened to Joe Strummer and company, so out came the old CDs.
Also been listening to the iTunes list I made a few weeks back (with a heavy dose of recommendations from the "songs for the Office" thread, btw)
I've gone with a little classical, a little oldies, this past week...The Clash (I have the first album and London Calling, as well as the great singles cd from a few years back).
On the subject of The Clash, I would recommend "Should I Stay or Should I Go" and "White Riot."
Cool, you went to Cal Poly?
Yes, Peach Iced Tea...you too?
I miss SLO (as all alumni do) but am just a couple of hours south.
