Pam's words were "I called off my wedding because of you", not "for you". Could that just mean that Jim opened her eyes to the fact that she shouldn't marry Roy because she realized someone else could love her the way Jim loves her? Am I just being paranoid? Should I just be happy and believe she called off the wedding for Jim because she loved him and wanted to be with him?

I guess I can see how Jim could still think Pam just wants to be really good friends. But hopefully they'll have that so long overdue private conversation soon so they (and we) can stop guessing about what the other one is feeling and what their intentions are.

May 11th 2007

I think that's an insightful reading of her wording. It implies what he said and did and who he was meant a lot to her, but it doesn't undercut the idea that she broke things off with Roy for herself. And because she did it for herself, she is better able to be there for someone who deserves her. Actually, now that you mention it, it makes all the difference in the world, and I think it's a good thing.

Pam's words were "I called off my wedding because of you", not "for you".

I was raised Catholic, so I can appreciate some good hair-splitting, but I'm just not seeing that big of a difference. Maybe I'm just being optimistic (I know, fun change, huh?), but I think the cat is finally, and for real, out of the bag. At least halfway out. Everything but her tail.

May 11th 2007

I'm just going to stop reading into your choice of words DftF. I think the promise of a two-piece is hampering my judgment.

May 11th 2007

And while I'd love to see Pam wiggle, if we get a bunch of backpedalling and, "Oh, that's not really what I meant" bullshit after this . . . well, I'm going to be pissed.

Me too. Big time pissed. I'd like to think the writers took care of all the wiggling and backpedaling from The Return until now and now we are moving on in straight forward fashion. Unfortunately I still have doubts.

Pam's words were "I called off my wedding because of you", not "for you". Could that just mean that Jim opened her eyes to the fact that she shouldn't marry Roy because she realized someone else could love her the way Jim loves her?

This reminds of the frightening point that Jenna Fischer has brought up a couple times that maybe Jim isn't who Pam is meant to be with, that maybe he's a conduit between the bad relationship with Roy and the person she is meant to be with.

May 11th 2007

Oh God, don't remind me of that comment. That has been by far the worst "not quite a spoiler" thing I've read so far. I hate that she said that. Yeah, I said hate.

May 11th 2007

I feel like what we've gotten hasn't been that much worse than that. At this point I'd rather see a resolution where she ends up happy and can be funny, pranky, jokey, loveable Pam again. It'd be nice to have old Jim back again, but he seems like a lost cause at this point.

Right now I want Jim to be with Pam only because it seems like that will make Pam happy. If Pam can move on and continue to grow and be happy without him, I'll be fine with it, and Jim can go get mugged in Central Park for all I care. I'd really and truly be OK with that.

There's a huge difference and that's why there's the wiggle room. For you means that Pam didn't marry Roy because she wants to be with Jim and it's what Jim wants in return. She did something for him, so they can be together. Because of you could means that Jim was the reason. Maybe he helped her come to the realization that she didn't love Roy after all or that they just aren't a good match. We have to remember that after Pam called of the wedding, she did nothing to contact Jim or even notify him that the wedding was off. If she had called off the wedding for him, what would be the point if she doesn't even let him know that she did something for him? Of course for you can also mean "because of you", but "because of you" doesn't necessarily mean for you.

I hope this was the beginning of the defining moment they need to have together, I just think that the writers have an "out" if they want to take this in another direction. I'm thinking about Casino Night, and we all saw Pam return Jim's kiss and I'm so sure that there was dialogue afterward. Well, the writers didn't want it going in the direction it was headed, so they completely replayed that scene without the dialogue, without the surprised look from Jim, without the long pause.

I don't mean to put a damper on anything. I'm just considering all of the possibilities. I guess I am being a little pessimistic, maybe because I don't want to set my hopes too high again.

May 11th 2007

I think she canceled the wedding because of Jim in hopes that it could be for Jim in the near future.

Well, I think the point is to make sure we know that Pam can stand on her own two feet (and more importantly, have PAM know that she can) before putting her in another romantic relationship, even if it is with Jim.

As for Jenna Fisher's comments - I've heard this stuff said by actors in shows MANY times. It's just to keep people in the 'will they/won't they' mindset so no one can ever truly cross into 'they definitely will'. Because if you strip that stuff away, then it's pretty obvious that they will...eventually.

If Pam can move on and continue to grow and be happy without him, I'll be fine with it

I would not. Season three has taught me something. I watch The Office every week without fail for the comedy. I record and rewatch and rewatch and rewatch for Jim and Pam. Jim and Pam are what made this show stand out from every other show on my DVR. They are the reason I googled "Jim and Pam" during the winter of 2005 and found this site. And the lack of their interaction is the reason I have rarely rewatched episodes over and over this season. I still love the show and think it's the best. But I'm not in love with the show without JAM. They don't need to be together right now. But I need to hope it will come eventually. I need progress. And that is why I have rewatched Beach Games 3 times already.

Whether or not she said "because of you" or "for you" is kinda beside the point. It was the 800-pound gorilla in the room, the real reason why she called it off with Roy. Sometimes, though, it's nice to have someone vocalize that. I think the Pamfession had to happen before we could even hope that Jam becomes a reality anytime in the future.

Jim will definitely have a lot to think about, and I think he'll know what she meant. He was the reason she broke off the wedding, and that will be the catalyst (I hope) for him to do some changes.

Something interesting: when Jim was calling the CFO, Karen was right there and took the phone from him afterwards to make her own pitch for the job. This leads me to believe he may have been pushed into calling by Karen, and maybe she applied as a show of support. Nevertheless, she's pushing him towards something that he doesn't actually want to do (I'm guessing, it's so hard to tell at this point). There's a difference between someone inspiring you (Pam and the pranks) and pushing you (Karen and the job).

That's a laudable goal and a perfect justification, but I feel worn thin waiting for it. Honestly, I think I'm just bummed that summer hiatus is here, and we're not going to get to enjoy the new Pam. IT would have been nice for a few episodes while they tackled other plot points, i.e. Jan and Michael, the branch's future, anything else...

I think the laughs of The Negotiation or Safety Training would have been more enjoyable coupled with the satisfaction that Pam was on the right track instead of the distraction of wondering if she would be before the finale.

I TOTALLY agree with this...however at this point, I'm just glad they didn't skimp on what they did give us. I was afraid the 'new Pam' was going to end up being so subtle that we might not even think the season was proportionate buildup for her reveal...but even though it was longer than it should have been, I think it makes this all the sweeter.

I just can't express how relieved I am that she was happy with what she did when everything was said, and she didn't regret it or feel awkward in a bad way. I was so afraid she was going to embarrass herself...and I LOVE that she didn't.

I totally agree with this. I don't know why I'm being so negative. I absolutely loved last night's ep. Even before Pam let loose, I thought it was so hilarious. Then she just blew me away with her cuteness and spunkiness and pride. I'm just greedy. I want more. And I don't want it to end.

May 11th 2007

Jim can go get mugged in Central Park for all I care. I'd really and truly be OK with that.

That's not very nice at all.

I was exaggerating. I still think Jim's a good dude and want him to end up with Pam. And I believe he will. But not next week.

Oct 5th 2008

I believe that we can be pretty assured that Pam is not in love with Roy now. Anyone want to argue with that?

Oct 5th 2008

Sure, Pam is still in love with Roy. Didn't you see him inside the convenient store when Jim was proposing? Pam totally looked at him wistfully. I foresee the love triangle coming back.

Oct 5th 2008

Okay, so who's Roy again?

Oct 5th 2008

Pam should have never traded the Ipod for the teapot.

Oct 5th 2008

Okay, so who's Roy again?

The guy who's banging Pam weekdays in New York.

Oct 5th 2008

Nice CGB. But, I think he's actually banging your mom.

Oct 5th 2008

Can't he be banging Pam and CGB's mom?

Oct 5th 2008

And yours too.

I wouldn't put it past him. The ladies love him.

These are great comments after the original Beach Games.
