I loved this line from Jan in Performance Reviews:
"Please don't smell me, Michael."
Hilarious.
Jan: What (long pause) would (long pause) you (long pause) like (long pause) me (long pause) to (long pause) do? (long pause) Michael?
Michael: Don't talk to me that way.
Jan is confused. At times she appears to derive pleasure from putting Michael down, but then there's something about him that she finds irresistable.
Sorry, PW Jim, I'm at work and doing these from memory.
The ole memory ain't what it used to be.
Today I loaned out my Season One DVD. I told the guy I want it back in 5 days cause after that I'll be jonzin for a fix.
I know what you mean Tapper... my boss is a fan of the show as well, and I let him have my DVD for a weekend... and no more.
Is it just me, or is Jan the hottest woman on the show???? Man, is she gorgeous!! Why can't I find any beautiful women like her!!!
:canyoutelliminlove:
Okay my age is going to show here but I remember first seeing Melora Harden in the tv version of Dirty Dancing back in the 80's. She played "Baby" ... of course the show didn't last very long.
Does anyone else remember that or just me?
Whoa! Wait! There was a tv version of Dirty Dancing??? Granted I was too young to care, but still. How have I never heard of that? By the way, I can totally see Jan as Baby.
She was very young..that's for sure. And like I said the show didn't last for long. Maybe 3 or 4 episodes before it was cancelled.
That's too bad it got cancelled. I can't really think of all that many TV versions of movies that did well. Except for Buffy, which is far superior to the movie.
Was flipping through some old DVD's at a store and came across the move "Lambada" where Malora was one of the main characters... I had forgotten she was in this because she had short hair and was playing a teenager who falls for her teacher when he teaches them how to dance the Lambada... (J. Eddie Peck played the teacher)
I'm watching a rerun of Quantum Leap with Melora as a main character. It's blowing my mind. Where would the universe be without Scott Bakula to fix all these problems in time.
Here I am off-topic again, but I love Scott Bakula. I saw him a few years back at a local ice rink with his kids. (kid? At least one child anyway) He wore a ballcap to try to be incognito (or maybe because it was like 30˚ in the place.) He looked very handsome and I tried not to stare. I did not succeed.
I used to love this show. I really couldn't sit through these episodes, though. It doesn't really hold up well. Jan was a real cutie before she grew up and became such a femme fatale.
For those of you that have seen the S2 DVD's....
I guess I missed you....I guess I missed you....I guess I missed you....I guess I missed you....I guess I missed you....I guess I missed you....I guess I missed you....I guess I missed you....
that was hilarious
How about I missed you...I missed you too...I missed you...I missed you too...I missed you....I missed you too...
I couldn't believe those are live!!! What detail!
Actually, aside from the hilarious bloopers, what's the point of doing it live?
I'm guessing there's some technical reason why it's better to have Jan speaking then listening to a recording of her voice. Someone should email the prop guy John and ask if he knows.
If it's live, then Steve can do more improv for the scene instead of being tied to the restraints of what was recorded. And as we know from the premier, greatness comes from his improvisation of scenes!

I wanted to mention, cause it hasn't come up, that Melora was pretty good in the season finale of Gimore Girls last May. The episode was crap, but it was nice to see her play someone other than Jan.
anyone watch the deleted scenes from "convention"?
there's one scene where jan tries to convince josh to come up to her room to "discuss some work" and just come up for one drink, but he flat out says no.
interesting. every show has so many parallel story lines running, and "convention" had the "whores of philly" theme going with jan and angela.
edtrash, yeah I saw that deleted scene, too. That had desperation written all over Jan's face. It was as painful and sad to watch as it was funny.
"Step away from me, Michael."
Definitely my favorite Jan line ever.
Couldn't agree more. And that super close-up on her revealed how pretty her eyes are! Wow.
Wow...Melora was really great in this past episode. She's a great actress...hopefully now with Jan finally admitting her feelings to Michael, we'll maybe get to see more of her.
Not that I rate the women of the office in order of their hotness, but if I did, Jan would be all alone in the #2 spot. I think she's really sexy.
As to her character, I sometimes find her a little frustrating...She is so bipolar that it's almost hard to digest. How she can go from loathing Michael to lusting for him in such a short span of time is incredible, and probably points to some seriously dark mommy/daddy psychological issues... I don't find that overly sexy. But she's still hot.
I don't know that she's loathed Michael... she's loathed her feelings for him and she's loathed herself for lusting after a subordinate and she's loathed his behavior at work. To me it's been clear that she has fought liking him from the start. If she really hadn't wanted to open up to Michael at Chili's about the divorce--in front of a client, no less--no number of martinis would have made her.
I get the impression sometimes (perhaps from fantasies about the show that play in my head) that Jan doesn't like being a high-powered NYC executive. We haven't seen that she's particularly good at it, although she can play and dress the part. Maybe the lower-key Scranton lifestyle is attractive to her, too. She's been married in NYC already... why not motherhood and a small-town life?
I think of her less as bipolar than as a true and secret self fighting with her image of the liberated female professional she thinks she ought to be. Michael could be her out if she wants. He'd marry and impregnate her in a heartbeat. In the speculation thread, people wondered if there would be a pregnancy scare. I wonder if it would be hers. Michael will be crushed if it's a mistake.
