  • Northern Attack Recap

How would I describe myself? Three words: hardworking, alpha male, jackhammer. Merciless. Insatiable.

Jan 16th 2007

Rainn is listed so Dwight will be in the episode! Yay!

Jan 16th 2007

Wow, look at Jim. TWO women want him, and not only do the two women in question not hate each other, but they're working together with him to stage a prank. You go, Jim!

I feel a cage match coming on. Of course they work.

Jan 16th 2007

Well, it just says Jim turns to them. It doesn't say whether they lend a hand or turn tables on him. That said, yeah, Jim's the man. And can you imagine the damage Angela could inflict on Andy in a cage match?

As for Oscar, I hate to say it but I didn't miss him a bit.

Jan 16th 2007

Yeah......neither do I. He's the one character that just doesn't do it for me. And since there are other characters that I love love love, I like letting them have the screen time.

And didn't we establish in the Halloween episode that there was only two people's worth of work in the accounting department, anyway?

Jan 16th 2007

or turn tables on him.

This would be hilarious. It had never even occured to me before.

Jan 16th 2007

turn tables on him.

If they do this, then Pam and Karen are an even bigger alliance than just being in the "friendly co-workers who don't hate each other even though they like the same guy" camp together.

Yes, Angela would kick Andy's ass in a cage. And I get the feeling that he would really like it. Dwight + Angela + ANDY = potential for X-rated, NBC-censored (and therefore awesome) bedroom humor.

Jan 16th 2007

I can't WAIT to see her unleashed on him. That look at the end of last week's ep was bone-chilling. And thrilling!

Jan 16th 2007

She was quite literally shaking with rage. She probably spends her nights fantasizing about tap-dancing on his larynx.

Now there's a side of LT we don't see too often.

Jan 16th 2007

Just takin' the cage match metaphor down to a Todd Packer level, that's all.

They've given subtle indicators, though, that Angela might be into things that are a little...off color, shall we say? - in the bedroom. She seemed to enjoy slapping Dwight a lot in "Casino Night." She also seemed oddly turned on during Dwight's Bad Cop routine in "Drug Testing," and she's given looks to the camera before to indicate that in spite of her outward appearance, maybe she occasionally likes being put in her place. And putting people in theirs, obviously...

I can't be blamed for taking the building blocks of a funny show and constructing meaning, can I?

She totally has a whip hanging over her bed. You heard it here first.

Jan 16th 2007

It's right by her cross.

Jan 16th 2007

And her pictures of babies playing musical instruments.

Jan 17th 2007

The Return. I wonder if this is one of those episode titles with double meaning.

Question: In addition to Oscar's return, do you think that Dwight might be coming back this soon?

Maybe Jan will find out about the email, and Michael will return to his unattached state.

Maybe Karen will return to wherever she used to live.

Pam returns to Roy? Yeech!

Jim & Karen return their Xmas gifts to the video store.

But, seriously, Dwight? Maybe? You think?

Jan 17th 2007 edited

Or maybe Angela files her tax returns early?

I hope Dwight comes back.

Jan 17th 2007 edited

I can't imagine, if I were Karen, how I might feel if my love interest asked his former "crush" to help us prank someone. Especially when that love interest's reassurances that those feelings were gone weren't all that convincing.

I think I would be unhappy about that.

No, I'm sure - I would be unhappy about that.

Jan 17th 2007

But, seriously, Dwight? Maybe? You think?

I think Dwight will be elsewhere for a couple of episodes, at least. It has a nice symmetry with Jim's departure and, uh, return.

Jan 17th 2007

Or maybe Angela files her tax returns early?

And I thought that I thought of everything. That's great, Pan.

Jan 17th 2007

She's gotta counteract the bad juju of sending the last batch of tax forms late!

Jan 17th 2007

The Return. I wonder if this is one of those episode titles with double meaning.

Yeah, wasn't it originally titled Oscar's Return? We're onto you, Office Writers!

Jan 17th 2007 edited

Yeah, Pan. The episode could be called The Return because it's all about that tax return that Dwight brought to Corporate. Angela was in such a hurry that she forgot to sign it, so Dwight returns to Corporate with Angela in Tow so she can get it signed ASAP.
Then on the way back, they return to the Hotel in the Convention so that Angela can give Dwight something in return for all of his trouble. While Dwight is getting comfortable, Angela steps out for a minute, and returns to find that Dwight had no patience and has already started having his cookies without her.
They return to Scranton where Angela has a voice message that says that because of the signature thing, the return was filed late after all. Angela returns to her desk to start working on next quarter's return.
Dwight returns to the beet farm to find that Mose has not returned the Ipod that he borrowed. Because Dwight is unemployed and has no Ipod, he sits down to watch his DVD of The Return of the Jedi.
Meanwhile, Oscar returns to Dunder-Mifflin, a little down-hearted because Gil has not returned any of his phone calls.
Oh and Phyllis and Jim realize that they took each others cars by mistake, so they return them to their rightful owners.
Pam forgot to return Dwights handkerchief after she washed it, so after the movie, he returns to Dunder-Mifflin to get it.
While he is there, Angela begs him to do something so that he can return to work. Dwight then apologizes to Michael for lying to him, then Michael apologizes in return for doubting him. Dwight returns to his post.

The End. I will return with the sequel. Just kidding.
Many happy returns.

Jan 17th 2007

Dwight thinks about diversifying to grow returnips.

Mose bakes a basket of returnovers.

Jan 17th 2007

I don't know how legitimate it is, but on a website that I occasionally glance at (epgudes.com) this episode was originally called Oscar's Return. Obviously, now, it has been changed to just The Return. This may be some evidence that points towards another episode title with a double meaning. Although I say 'another', I can only think of The Secret which fits that category off the top of my head. But, The Secret is my favorite episode, so hopefully we'll have good things coming tomorrow.

Jan 17th 2007

"The Fight" and "Initiation" work this way as well.

Jan 17th 2007

What is the secondary initiation, other than Dwight initiating Ryan?

Jan 17th 2007

The (accidental) initiation of contact between Jim and Pam.

Jan 17th 2007

I'm guessing we're going to see more of Shrute Farm. Perhaps we will see the inside of the house, though I can see Dwight denying the cameras access to his house. What do you imagine the inside to look like? I imagine D&D books and character pages scattered everywhere with laser tag gear draped over an old rocking chair. All the wood is finished a deep mohogany color and throughout the house are painted portraits of Shrute ancestors including all the Dwight Shrutes and Dwide Shrude. I imagine an obscene amount of taxidermy on display as well.

Jan 18th 2007

"The Fight" and "Initiation" work this way as well.

Cool, Nathan... never thought of those as a double meaning before that.

Here's my interpretation...

1.) "Andy takes advantage of recent events to get closer to Michael." Read: Andy moves to Dwight's desk.

  • Sure he's closer in the power aspect, but I'm willing to bet he's moving physically closer too.

  • This opens up Oscar's desk so the accountants will sit together again. I'm expecting plenty of disgusted looks from Angela (that is, when she's not plotting Andy's slow and painful death).

2.) "Jim turns to Karen and Pam for help to stage a prank on a new target."

  • New target has got to be Andy. This also makes sense if he's moved into Dwight's desk.

  • I'm guessing it starts out as Jim/Pam. Karen sees the fun and joins in because: a) torturing Andy is almost as fun as torturing Dwight, and b) she wants to see the dynamic between Jim and Pam. It could lead to some jealousy on a couple levels.

Also: I hope we see Dwight in some crappy job...pumping gas or bagging groceries or something.
