and wept when, after Pam had stood in so many times as Michael's mother figure, Michael stood in as her father by telling her how proud he was of her.

I was just getting ready to post about that scene. I still tear up when I watch it.

Thanks for adding that, VG. We should get together and have a weepfest.
We'll sit around cutting onions as we watch the bird funeral, Pam and Jim's
Casino Night kiss, etc... Maybe we can get the Kleenex people to sponsor it.

This episode is a mix of two episodes: A poignant, heartbreaking yet hilarious episode (art show/bat in office/jim antics/pam realizing what she has gotten herself into) and a tired, over the top show relying too heavily on an egg on the face character (Michael screaming/descent into madness at the class).

I liked both sides of this episode, but the art show scenes make all the rest forgettable by comparison.

I always felt that I was the only person in the world that did not enjoy this.

While bits of his speech to the students are funny, the combination of this plus his behaviour in Phyllis' Wedding and Cocktails was just too much for me.

Every week, everybody thinks Pam has hit rock bottom. The next week, they come up with some new (and possibly more ridiculous) way to make it worse. I feel like they won't be satisfied till she's shooting heroin and trading sexual favors for food.

This is why I dislike this stretch of S3. Every week you thought they couldn't make things worse for her and then they would. Next up, The Negotiation and Jim the douche.
