Born in the Yankee Swap thread and discussed in diverse places, the Northern Attack Book Box has made its first complete (and, might I add, extremely timely) round. I think it deserves its own thread! Here's a place where we can post updates and alert folks to address changes, and where new members can express their interest.

What is the Northern Attack Book Box?
The book box is--get this--a box of ten books that travels from participant to participant.

What are the book box rules?
Your name is on a list. You get a box of ten books in the mail. You remove titles that interest you and replace them with books of your own. You ship ten books to the next person on the list. (Media mail is slow but cheap.)

How do I join?
Submit your name and address via email to the person in charge (currently Catherine Zeta-Jones). That person will put you on the list in a place that makes geographic sense. When the list is compiled, you'll get a copy of the list so you know who ships to you and who to ship to.

What can I expect?
Fun, excitement, and a sense of belonging. And books to read.

Current participants should update their addresses if necessary so we don't lose the box.

I would just like to commend KarenM on mustering the courage to start a thread of her own. I know nothing of the book box, however.

May 25th 2007

Here were the books in the box today:

A Place Called Freedom by Ken Follett
Cat & Mouse by James Patterson
Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk
Lord John and the Private Matter by Diana Gabaldon
How to be a Supersalesman by Art Linkletter
Ashes to Ashes by Richard Kluger
My Life as a Dog by Reidar Jonsson
Leading with my Chin by Jay Leno
More Letters from a Nut by Ted L. Nancy
Lies my Teacher Told Me James W. Loewen
Keeping Faith by Jodi Picoult
True Believer by Nicholas Sparks

Plus a wonderful assortment of tourist information regarding the Blue Ridge Mountains and Eastern NC. It was perfect.

May 25th 2007

Um, I think you mean Western NC. That is all.

May 25th 2007

See, I do that all the time. Maybe I'm direction impaired.

May 25th 2007

Wow. Not a single one of those books did I put in or pass on. I think I was halfway down the chain; that a complete genetic mutation twice a cycle. If we were a virus we'd rule the board! I mean world.

May 25th 2007

So....somewhere else in this land, the offer was made to open the list to add-ons to the list.

For newbies, are there rules, and are "the rules" somewhere?

May 25th 2007

I must know who put in the Dave Barry book. I ended up not taking it, but was so tempted just so I could laugh and say that I was laughing at something funny that someone wrote.

May 25th 2007

The rules are this: You get a box. It has ten books in it. You pull out the ones you'd like to read (none or ten or any number in between) and replace them. You mail a box of ten books to the next person on your list. Usually media mail unless you are flush with desire to blow money on priority mail.

C Z-J arranged us so the box would travel in increments across the country, so you'd mail it to someone pretty close to you. Since we're at the beginning of the list again, she'll probably just squeeze you in somewhere logical depending on where you live. Email C Z-J at the address in her profile and send her your address. That's all it takes to get on the roster!

May 25th 2007

Thank you.

May 29th 2007

OKB, just wanted to let you know that I did get your email. Anyone else who needs to update their address (me) or who also wants in on the book box, feel free to email me. Are we thinking we want to start round 2? Or do we want to wait a bit to give people time to accumulate books to contribute?

May 30th 2007

Just let me know when to send out the next round of the book box. I know a few people have been added to it, so I need an updated list. I sewed a paperback book cover to go to the first person on the list (very cute, if I say so myself - Amy Butler fabric, two extra pockets on the inside for "little" stuff, an attached ribbon bookmark, and two thin pieces of elastic to hold your pages open so you can read even when your hands are busy doing other things...take that as you will, TWWSers...). So, anyway, just let me know when to ship and to where!

May 30th 2007

I just joined the list today--I'm very excited about getting some new reading!

May 30th 2007

I just messaged CZ-J to join. I must admit I'm a little apprehensive, 'cause so many of you are "literature" readers, and I tend to read "books." I'm ready to kick it up a notch, though. BAM!

May 30th 2007

I'm ready to kick it up a notch, though. BAM!

Rachael Ray.

May 30th 2007

Rachael Ray.

I think you mean Sugar Ray Leonard, boxing legend.

May 30th 2007

We could set a "join by" date. It's not like the cycle takes so long that someone who misses out never gets another opportunity. And I won't be putting much "literature" into the box this time. I don't think I put much in last time. So no one should feel intimidated!

May 30th 2007

I think you mean Sugar Ray Leonard, boxing legend.

Aren't you thinking of Mark McGrath, lead singer of the band Sugar Ray?

May 30th 2007

Mark McGrath, lead singer of the band Sugar Ray?

no... Mark McGwire, of homerun fame

May 30th 2007

You mean JLJ?

May 30th 2007

OK. I was following this banter and was waiting for someone to add Lizzy McGuire so I could add Lizzy Borden but the JLJ remark totally threw me.

May 30th 2007

JLJ says he looks a little like Mark McGwire. Or maybe it was Lizze McGuire...

May 30th 2007

Well I don't know about you people but I’ve had enough of this LBJ character.

May 30th 2007 edited

Or maybe it was Lizze McGuire...

Guys, Lizzie Borden.

Well I don't know about you people but I’ve had enough of this LBJ character.

Yeah, I never thought the New Deal was a good idea.

May 30th 2007

Yeah, I never thought the New Deal was a good idea.

That's because Howie Mandel is annoying.

May 30th 2007

That's because Howie Mandel is annoying.

The one that played for the Raiders? I think you're thinking of Howie Long.

May 30th 2007

No... you're thinking of Long Duck Dong, who dated that track star.

May 30th 2007 edited

I think the person you have in mind is Long Dong Silver, the notorious porn star, actually.

May 31st 2007

No, she's talking about Long John Silvers, the fish restaurant. And I'm pretty sure they don't sell porn there.

May 31st 2007

Office creator and new NBC Entertainment President Ben Silverman? I didn't know he was into porn.
