I think we have 3 music threads.

Nov 28th 2008

Well then, maybe I'll start a 4th.

Nov 28th 2008

Let's just post a lot in this one to make it worth having.

Nov 28th 2008

Okay. I don't have an iPod.

Nov 28th 2008 edited

A slightly uneven, hardly danceable list of stuff:

  1. Leonard Cohen - Suzanne
  2. Spoon - Stay Don't Go
  3. Stravinsky - Petruskha
  4. Loudon Wainwright III - The Swimming Song
  5. Bob Dylan - Hurricane
  6. Air - Brakes On
  7. George Mulligan and His Orchestra - Come Rain or Shine (<--I've never, ever listened to or heard of this. Weird.)
  8. Damien Rice - Dogs
  9. The Rolling Stones - Mercy Mercy
  10. George Gershwin - Novelette in Fourths

That is surprisingly devoid of guilty pleasure music. Hmph.

Loudon Wainwright III - The Swimming Song

How ya been Pont? I love this song. I have tried to learn it on guitar. It isn't that hard, it's just that I'm not very good. Anyway, by the looks of it, you have pretty, uh, swingin' parties.

Nov 28th 2008

I put my iPod on shuffle and listed the first 15 songs, so this is a pretty random list and not a good example of my usual listening habits. While I asterisked the ones I highly recommend, I percented the ones I'm either embarrassed by or blaming on my wife since it's a shared collection.

% Feelin' Love - Paula Cole
Why Can't This Be Love - Van Halen
One More Night - Phil Collins
Someday, Someway - The Jeff Healey Band
Wind-Up - Jethro Tull
* Mary Had a Little Lamb - Stevie Ray Vaughn

Nov 28th 2008

Anyway, by the looks of it, you have pretty, uh, swingin' parties.

Nothing gets the kids moving more than Petrushka. Unfortunately their move is usually for the door...

Nov 28th 2008

Nov 28th 2008

The difference between this and new music and playlist is this is not complied or suggested. I made it to force people to be completely honest about what is in their ITunes. By putting on party shuffle and writing what plays.

Nov 28th 2008

I was wondering what a difference 12 hours or so would make, so I'm doing it again, this time from my iTunes rather then my iPod (though I assume it's the same random generator).

Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of A New Day - Jethro Tull
You Learn - Alanis Morissette
Please Tell Me Why - Blink 182
Us And Them - Pink Floyd
Hold On - Triumph
Darkest Things - The Submarines

Awesome song.

Nov 29th 2008

Please Read the Letter - Robert Plant & Alison Krauss

I just got my guitar back from the shop today, and you just reminded me that I want to go play that song. I really like this one.

Nov 29th 2008

% Feelin' Love - Paula Cole

I love this song. That is all.

I wish you lived around here Daoust. I'd attempt the AK/RP song with you. I wish I could play the guitar.

Nov 29th 2008

I think we'd do a great job. I enjoy singing/playing it, but it would sound a lot better with someone singing harmony.

Nov 29th 2008

I think we'd do a great job. I enjoy singing/playing it, but it would sound a lot better with someone singing harmony.

Maybe you could play it and sing it and record that and I could layer over the harmony? That might be fun. Not as organic and beautiful as singing with, but it might work.

Nov 29th 2008

Weird, THPJ. I have several songs from your first list in my iTunes, but very few from the second.

Do Right Woman/Do Right Man - Aretha Franklin

Such a great song.

Nov 29th 2008

Maybe you could play it and sing it and record that and I could layer over the harmony? That might be fun. Not as organic and beautiful as singing with, but it might work.

Would I have to record it as an mpeg? If so, how do I do that? If this worked it would be very cool. It wouldn't have to be this song, but it is a nice one.

Nov 29th 2008

Niice, CGB. I loved that movie and its attendant soundtracks.

Nov 30th 2008

Carlotta Valdez-Harvey Danger

Awwww. I miss Harvey Danger.

Nov 30th 2008

Niice, CGB. I loved that movie and its attendant soundtracks.

Me too, even if it feels less than manly to sing along with Destination Anywhere in the car. It's a very rewatchable movie, too. And I know it was discussed, maybe two years ago now, but Roddy Doyle's "Barrytown Trilogy" is a great read, and "The Van" is not a bad movie.
