I hate our city council.

Is that a non sequitir? Like, "The supermarket where I shop never has any good produce. The cucumbers are always limp. The berries have a strange fuzz on them. And I've just never seen blue-green potatoes at any other store. I just don't get how their produce could be so bad. John Travolta has had an array of strange hairstyles in his career."

This makes total sense to me. I think mtt can attest that most of my conversations sound exactly like that.

They could have done dick in either case, but not much more. Hence, my confusion at hating a city council for a theater changing hands. Unless someone wants to build a new theater, our local officials don't have much say in who gets to own them. Figured it would be the same in Iowa, but maybe not.

I’m mad at the city council for a lot of reasons but mostly that they’re selling the city off to outside developers who have very little interest in the direction of the city other than profit. They’re even hiring snipers to kill off the deer population in the area because they’re in their way. The whole charm of the town has been completely diminished by the recruitment of chains into the area while the council stands by and allows local businesses to close. In Iowa, you have to maintain some charm because there is little else to recommend it. We had the independent theater in town for years and it fit perfectly in a university setting. It wasn’t losing money and it was the theater I went to most often. So, the council members are basically pond scum and I blame them for the theater purchases by an outside chain, too, even if they had nothing to do with it.

When I lived in Rome (the good one, in Georgia), the city council/town elders told the Gap they couldn't have a store downtown. Thus the Gap went in the mall and the downtown area continued to decline.

Yep. What gbone said. Bad business decision jeans. Also, “town elders” made me laugh.

Madge, Away We Go is not released at one of the "big" theatres? In Phoenix, it was released in the independent theatre for a couple of weeks and then got released in all of the "big" theatres.

No, it wasn’t released here at all. I looked for it in the Chicago Tribune to see if it was still out this weekend and, out of all the movie theaters there, it was showing in two. So, we’re never going to get it here and I’m really disappointed I can’t see you on the big screen, lem.

I was also confused because I was questioning Madge's post, but more than that responded. And when he responded, he didn't quote me but Madge's original post. So I wondered if he was answering for Madge or logging in under both names and responding to himself.

mtt does this a lot.

This is the story of Rochester.

I got the Rome/apples reference, but only because my grandpa had an apple farm. So I'm one of the 2%, right?

Speaking of stalking*...here's John's new house.

*I know you guys weren't talking about stalking in this thread but I was just going through the other threads where it was mentioned.

Jul 18th 2009

Seems like a reasonable house for someone of his stature. I don't like all the white walls and especially dislike the white kitchen cabinets, but I'm sure he has a little extra money for redecorating.

Jul 18th 2009

Why is it that every very rich person's house looks cool on the outside and fucking stupid on the inside? About the only thing I like about that place is the big windows.

Nice find! Thanks, lem! I like the bathroom and the rubber duck in the shower. Fortunately, the blog said the fraternity guy mod furniture is the previous owner's.

Jul 18th 2009

I LOVE the windows. And I agree with Madge. Great find, lem!

Sweet crib, yo.

Sweet crib, yo.

Couldn't agree more BTF.

Now I know how AMJ felt a few weeks ago. Sigh.

Aug 28th 2009

I was just coming in here to post that. Boo but congrats to him! I wonder how Shida's probably feeling right about now. Back when John started dating Emily, there were tons of articles saying that she was heartbroken that he had moved on so fast. Whoops.

Aug 28th 2009

Boo

cries

but congrats to him!

Yesh, although I really hope they're not one of those couples who rushes into it (especially after dating for less than a year) and then it doesn't work out.

Word.

Aug 28th 2009

I knew it was serious when they got a dog together. I agree, I hope it's not too fast. That said, congrats John!

Aug 28th 2009

He must've heard that I moved away from LA and resigned himself to the fact that we would never meet and fall madly in love.

Aug 28th 2009

I think it's marvelous! She seems really cool. Yay, John!

Aug 28th 2009

She really is talented, and quite beautiful. They'll have great looking kids.

Aug 28th 2009

I have watched The Jane Austen Book Club more times than I care to admit. And I don't even really like Jane Austen books. Emily Blunt was in that, and she's a high school teacher, so I remember her part. Sunshine Cleaning is also at the top of my To Watch list.

Really gets you deep down, doesn't it? Take it from me, a few good cries for a couple weeks and you'll start to get over it.

Aug 28th 2009

Thanks, girl.

Aug 28th 2009

I think he probably thought to himself, This girl is hot and I look like Droopy Dog. It's time to lock that down.

Aug 29th 2009

The Ring

For DftF. In case you're still thirsty.

Sep 3rd 2009

Looks pretty good. I'll see it.

Sep 3rd 2009

Thanks for posting that, gb. I've been patiently waiting for that to finally be released.

Sep 3rd 2009

Thanks for posting that, gb. I wonder if it will come out here. I think it's supposed to come out on On Demand at the same time it hits theaters.

Sep 4th 2009

So John's getting married. May he have better luck than costars Jenna and Angela with his first matrimonial amalgamation. Raises glass.

I should be a best man speech writer.

Sep 4th 2009

Two actors getting married? What could possibly go wrong?
