NOTE: I decided to change this thread to a different sort of game.

Rules: Name FOUR people, who are currently among the living, that you would invite to a super-fun dinner party. Explain why you chose each person, and if necessary, a short bio for each.

Islands in the stream, that is what we arrrrrrre...

Sing along, all you karaoke fiends. First prize gets a virtual $200. Payable in Stanley Nickels or SchruteBucks, winner's choice.

Oct 30th 2007

Mr. Krasinski is disqualified for lack of participation on these here boards.

But yes, that is indeed swoon-worthy. I should watch THAT before I go to sleep and night and maybe I would dream of him singing that (horrible song, though it is) to me. Hmm...

Oct 30th 2007

Not to burst your guys' bubbles but he was looking at me when he was singing that.

Oct 30th 2007

Hussy!

Oct 30th 2007

Do you go by the name of Pam on the NBC boards, BTF? I know that was you.

Oct 30th 2007

Can't be. Don't frequent those boards.

Oct 30th 2007 edited

That and you're not a dude who stalks PV.

Oct 30th 2007

Oh...yeah...about that. Um, guys? There's something you should know about me... :)

You're as cold as ice
You're willing to sacrifice our love

You never take advice
Someday you'll pay the price, I know

I've seen it before, it happens all the time
(Oooh-oooh) You're closing the door, you leave the world behind
You're digging for gold, yet throwing away
(Aaah-aaah) A fortune in feelings, but someday you'll pay

You're as cold as ice
You're willing to sacrifice our love

You want paradise
But someday you'll pay the price, I know

I've seen it before, (oooh-oooh) it happens all the time
(Oooh-oooh) You're closing the door, you leave the world behind
You're digging for gold, (aaah-aaah) yet throwing away
(Aaah-aaah) A fortune in feelings, but someday you'll pay

Cold as ice, you know that you are
Cold, cold, as, as, ice, as cold as ice to me
Cold, cold, as, as, ice

Um, the oohs and aahs aren't mine. They belong solely to Foreigner.

Oct 30th 2007

I thought you'd put Ice Ice Baby for some spastic reason.

Oct 30th 2007

Word to your mother.

Oct 30th 2007

I would have but Vanilla's just too cold, too cold.

Oct 30th 2007

(take a chance, take a chance, take a take a chance chance . . .)

If you change your mind, I'm the first in line
Honey I'm still free
Take a chance on me
If you need me, let me know, gonna be around
If you've got no place to go, if you're feeling down
If you're all alone when the pretty birds have flown
Honey I'm still free
Take a chance on me
Gonna do my very best and it ain't no lie
If you put me to the test, if you let me try

Conway Twitty - Tight Fittin' Jeans

She tried to hide it by the faded denim clothes she wore.
But I knew she'd never been inside a bar before.
I felt just like a peasant, who just had met a queen
And she knew I saw right through her tight fittin' jeans.

(Verse 2) I asked her what's a woman, like you doin' here?
I see you're used to champagne, but I'll buy you a beer.
She said you've got me figured out, but I'm not what I seem
And for a dance I'll tell you 'bout these tight fittin' jeans.

(Chorus 1)
She said I married money, I'm used to wearin' pearls
But I've always dreamed of bein' just a good ol' boy's girl.
So tonight I left those crystal candlen lights to live a dream,
And partner there's a tiger in these tight fittin' jeans.

Giddy up

To continue Daoust's western theme (and the ragging on Billy Joel).......

Shameless - The Garth Brooks Version!
Note: I am wearing a ten-gallon hat and headset microphone

Well I'm shamemeless when it comes to loving you
I'll do anything you want me to
I'll do anything at all
And I'm standing here for all the world to see
Oh baby that's what's left of me
Don't have very far to fall

You know now I'm not a man who's ever been
Insecure about the world I've been livin' in
I don't break easy I have my pride
But if you need to be satisfied

I'm shameless, oh honey I don't have a prayer
Every time I see you standin' there
I go down upon my knees
And I'm changin' swore I'd never compromise
Oh but you convinced me otherwise
I'll do anything you please

You see in all my life I've never found
What I couldn't resist what I couldn't turn down
I could walk away from anyone I ever knew
But I can't walk away from you

I have never let anything have this much control over me
I work too hard to call my life my own
And I've made myself a world and it's worked so perfectly
But it's your world now I can't refuse
I've never had so much to lose
Oh I'm shameless

You know it should be easy for a man who's strong
To say he's sorry or admit when he's wrong
I've never lost anything I've ever missed
But I've never been in love like thisssssssssss (air guitar moves right here)

It's out of my hands
I'm shameless, I don't have the power now
I don't want it anyhow
So I got to let it go

Oh I'm shameless, shameless as a man can be
You make a total fool of me
I just wanted to you to know

Oh I'm shameless

Oct 30th 2007

Sing it Phyllis!

I'm pretty sure this is the only song I've ever karaoke'd.

I don't know where I'm going
But, I sure know where I've been
Hanging on the promises
In songs of yesterday
And I've made up my mind,
I ain't wasting no more time
But, here I go again
Here I go again

Though I keep searching for an answer,
I never seem to find what I'm looking for
Oh lord, I pray
You give me strength to carry on,
'cause I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams

And here I go again on my own
Going down the only road I've ever known,
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
And I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time

I'm just another heart in need of rescue,
Waiting on love's sweet charity
And I'm gonna hold on
For the rest of my days,
'cause I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams

And here I go again on my own
Going down the only road Ive ever known,
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time

You stole my song, Brian. I was coming in to put that one.

Someday I will actually get drunk and embarrass myself by singing this in public~

Can any-body find meee somebody to love?
Each morning I get up I die a little
Can barely staaand on my feet
Take a look in the mirror and cryyyy
Lord what you're doing to me
I have spent all my years in believing you
But I just can't get no relief, Looooord!
Somebody, somebody
Somebody, somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

I work hard every day of my life
I work till I ache in my bones
At the end (at the end of the day) I take home my hard earned pay all on my own -
I get down on my knees
And I start to pray (praise the lord)
Till the tears run down from my ey-es
Lord - somebody - somebody
Can anybody find me - somebody to love?

(He works hard)
Everyday - I try and I try and I tryyy -
But eeeverybody wants to put me down
They say I'm goin' craa-azy
They say I got a lot of water in my brain
Got no common sense
I got nobody left to believe
Yeah - yeah yeah yeah

Oh Lord
Somebody - somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

Got no feeeel, I got no rhythm
I just keep losing my beat
I'm ok, I'm alright!
Ain't gonna face no defeat
I just gotta get out of this prison cell
Someday I'm gonna be freeee, Looord!

Find me somebody to love
Can anybody find me
Find me find me find me fiiind
Somebody
Some
Somebody toooo love!

(Fixed!)

I was totally having a Freddie Mercury moment last night, and even went online to download "Living on My Own." And then I cried about AIDS and how scary it must have been and what a great voice Freddie Mercury had.

Oct 30th 2007 edited

(How do I get it to stay in the lines without double spacing it?)

You put two spaces at the end of every line (ie, hit the spacebar twice).

And then I cried about AIDS and how scary it must have been and what a great voice Freddie Mercury had.

Girls. The last time I cried was the last time the Red Sox won the World Series.

Oct 30th 2007

Because you were cutting an onion?

Oct 30th 2007

My eyes are just a little sweaty today.

Oct 30th 2007

It's just been raining on my face.

I miss those guys.

Oct 31st 2007

They'll be back. For goooooood.

I really like Queen, but I'm surprised how many other people do. Maybe it was the Wayne's World revival, but I kind of figured they were just an obscure, mostly forgotten 70s band that happened to make great music. They seem to have a real following on here, though.

"The Night Chicago Died" by Paper Lace AND "Indiana Wants Me" by R. Dean Taylor

Daddy was a cop
On the East Side of Chicago
Back in the USA
Back in the bad old days

In the heat of a summer night
In the land of the dollar bill
When the town of Chicago died
And they talk about it still

When a man named Al Capone
Tried to make that town his own
And he called his gang to war
Against the forces of the law

I heard my momma cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Brother, what a night it really was
Brother, what a fight it really was
Glory be

I heard my momma cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Brother, what a night the people saw
Brother, what a fight the people saw
Yes, indeed

And the sound of the battle rang
Through the streets of the old East Side
'Til the last of the hoodlum gang
Had surrendered up or died

There was shouting in the street
And the sound of running feet
And I asked someone who said
'Bout a hundred cops are dead

I heard my momma cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Brother, what a night it really was
Brother, what a fight it really was
Glory be

I heard my momma cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Brother, what a night the people saw
Brother, what a fight the people saw
Yes, indeed

Then there was no sound at all
But the clock up on the wall
Then the door burst open wide
And my daddy stepped inside
And he kissed my momma's face
Then brushed her tears away

I heard my momma cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Brother, what a night it really was
Brother, what a fight it really was
Glory be

I heard my momma cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Brother, what a night the people saw
Brother, what a fight the people saw
Yes, indeed

(Fade out)

Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
I wish I had you to talk to

If a man ever needed dyin', he did
No one had the right to say what he said about you
And it's so cold and lonely here without you
Out there the law's a-comin'
I'm scared and so tired of runnin'

Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
I wish I had you to talk to

It hurts to see the man that I've become
And to know I'll never see the morning sun shine on the land
I'll never see your smilin' face or touch your hand
If just once more I could see
You, our home, and our little baby

Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
{police sirens}
I wish I had you to talk to

I hope this letter finds its way to you
Forgive me, Love, for the shame I put you through and all the tears
Hang on, Love, to the memories of those happy years
Red lights are flashin' around me
Yeah, Love, it looks like they found me

Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
Indiana wants me
Lord, I can't go back there
I wish I had you to talk to

Indiana wants me (this is the police, you are surrounded)
Lord, I can't go back there (give yourself up)
Indiana wants me (this is the police, give yourself up)
Lord, I can't go back there (you are surrounded)

At the risk of embarassing myself (why break a trend?), I have to admit I really like that first song. Takes me right back to second grade.

Oct 31st 2007

Because it's frickin' Halloween

I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
For my monster from his slab began to rise
And suddenly to my surprise

He did the mash
He did the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
He did the mash
It caught on in a flash
He did the mash
He did the monster mash

From my laboratory in the castle east
To the master bedroom where the vampires feast
The ghouls all came from their humble abodes
To get a jolt from my electrodes

They did the mash
They did the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
They did the mash
It caught on in a flash
They did the mash
They did the monster mash

The zombies were having fun
The party had just begun
The guests included Wolf Man
Dracula and his son

The scene was rockin', all were digging the sounds
Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds
The coffin-bangers were about to arrive
With their vocal group, "The Crypt-Kicker Five"

They played the mash
They played the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
They played the mash
It caught on in a flash
They played the mash
They played the monster mash

Out from his coffin, Drac's voice did ring
Seems he was troubled by just one thing
He opened the lid and shook his fist
And said, "Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?"

It's now the mash
It's now the monster mash
The monster mash
And it's a graveyard smash
It's now the mash
It's caught on in a flash
It's now the mash
It's now the monster mash

Now everything's cool, Drac's a part of the band
And my monster mash is the hit of the land
For you, the living, this mash was meant too
When you get to my door, tell them Boris sent you

Then you can mash
Then you can monster mash
The monster mash
And do my graveyard smash
Then you can mash
You'll catch on in a flash
Then you can mash
Then you can monster mash

All this Queen talk reminds me of this. Whatever happened to Mozart's Friend, anyway?

Oct 31st 2007

He poisoned Mozart and then died in obscurity and dementia, I thought.
