A few quick guidelines before I let you loose in the forums.

  • Don’t create discussion topics haphazardly.

This is particularly important. Before you create a new discussion topic, please check to see if the topic already exists (view a list of the more popular threads). I have created threads for each of the episodes and characters, as well as topics for the more popular types of discussions (media happenings, trivia games, quotes, plugging other Office sites, etc). Chances are a thread already exists for the topic you wish to discuss.

I do have one specific rule to go over here, and that is that you all leave the creation of the episode-specific discussion threads (2.16 Valentine's Day, 2.17 Dwight's Speech, etc.) up to the moderators. There is a specific format that I intend on using for those discussion threads. I will create discussions for upcoming episodes early enough to give you all sufficient time to speculate (without spoilers) on those episodes.

  • Follow the spoiler policy

Please familiarize yourself with our rules regarding the posting and discussion of spoliers.

  • Standard rules of English apply.

A few misspellings and run-on sentences here and there is no big deal, but try not to make a habit of speaking in broken English. This also means no excessive use of caps, question marks and exclamation points. Just use your common sense.

  • Markdown is your friend.

Markdown allows you to write and format text naturally without using HTML. It requires no action on your part to activate (it's enabled by default when you create your account) and is strongly recommended as the format of choice when posting comments.

  • Avatars and account pictures are currently disabled.

I do plan on adding support for them at some point. I will let you know when.

  • Respect the moderators.

That would be me (James), Catherine Zeta-Jones, Bri, Asdfaeou, Daoust, Anque, and Mixed Berries. We're all very nice people. Drop me a line at if you have any questions.

And now a few words from tanster...

A few tips on posting comments/questions and replying to specific members here at the Watercooler:

When posting a comment or question to a specific WC member:

Include their member name in your post.
For example: "Hey Count Chocula, what is the Geek Squad?"

Then, to make sure you don't miss posts directed at you:

Set up a saved search:

  1. Click the Search tab near the top of the page.
  2. Enter your member name (for example, Count Chocula) in the search field.
  3. Click the Comments radio button.
  4. Click the Search button.
  5. Enter your member name in the Save Search text field.
  6. Click the Save Search button.

You can then click the link under Searches in the right column.

To display a multi-line quote:

You'll have to be creative with your Markdown by entering two spaces after each line in the quote. This will force a line break after each line.
