I am quite depressed, and I wasn't really rooting for an engagement either. I guess I wanted the engagement to be postponed due to something a little less trivial than Andy stealing his spotlight. I honestly don't like where this is going....

I really thought the writing and acting was lacking. Please don't throw anything at me. It just seemed like everyone was already on summer vacation.

May 15th 2008

Michael has a soul mate in HR now. That will be a weird change in the dynamic for next year.

May 15th 2008

Andy's proposal was like a rehash of Michael's to Carol in Diwali. I fully expected Angela to say, "Can we speak in private?"

May 15th 2008 edited

You know, I am ever amazed at the complexity of my reactions to Michael. He can be so irritating and repellent (a rock as a gift to Toby, ugh), ridiculous and adolescent (singing his parody), hideously self-unaware, unabashedly self-absorbed, and on and on.

And yet I wanted to punch Jan when she made the comment that his sperm wasn't good enough.

eta: Jan, how dare you?

May 15th 2008

I hope Holly is there to stay.

May 15th 2008

So, realistically do you guys foresee JAM angst because Jim didn't propose tonight? In real life I would say no, because he could just pick another great time to do it, hell he's waited this long, but this is TV. I was so certain that they were done with the JAM angst. Ugg

May 15th 2008

Well, this finale certainly didn't measure up to the past 2 years but the whole episode was great. I laughed all the way through it.

Does anyone get the idea that Toby will be back? He's got photos of Pam. Pam said she thought he was cute. Jim didn't propose.

May 15th 2008

The first time they kissed was outside? Wah!?

I guess Jim doesn't see that stolen kiss in Casino Night as their first kiss. Maybe they kissed outside in the parking lot after work in The Job?

May 15th 2008

So, realistically do you guys foresee JAM angst because Jim didn't propose tonight?

Yes. Nothing like a little disappointment to make you want to yell at someone and then cry when they don't meet your high expectations.

Oh wait. That's just my current emotional state.

May 15th 2008

Does anyone thing that Holly is too good to be true? That there is a dark side to her we just haven't seen yet? I got that when she would glance at the camera when she was alone.

May 15th 2008

I guess I wanted the engagement to be postponed due to something a little less trivial than Andy stealing his spotlight.

Woah there. Jim Halpert has been in love with Pam Beesly for a long time. He is a true romantic. He spend a whackload of cash on the party, complete with the fireworks and all. There was NO WAY he was going to ask Pam to marry him once Andy declared his intentions. So yeah, the writers may have been playing around with our hearts a bit with this episode, but it's okay by me. For now anyway. Now if they drag out the engagement till the Season 5 finale, I'll be a little pissed.

May 15th 2008

Any angst would be mild, I think. She didn't seem devastated, just sad. You can recover from that. That throwaway Pam line about Toby being cute holds little significance: she was just being nice to someone who was leaving, and she had just used the word "perfect" in a TH about her life, which includes Jim as her boyfriend.

May 15th 2008

During a break it said there would be an interview or something with (I think) Gregg Daniels, Brian B. and Ed Helms on our local NBC news at 11. Is that on every NBC local station?

May 15th 2008

And yet I wanted to punch Jan when she made the comment that his sperm wasn't good enough.

I was amazed by her statement, "Sure if I was young and had a lot of time, let Michael have a shot at it. But I have to make this one count." Ay ay ay. Like children can be throwaway if you have several. There's always been a cold edge to Jan that's kinda scary.

May 15th 2008

Well, that's twice that Jim was about to have a big, life-changing moment with Pam and had it spoiled by some asshole making a marriage proposal (remember - Roy said the first one didn't count).

So, where are the people who scream about plot re-hashes now?

Look - the episode was brilliant til the last five minutes. The writing, the acting, the plot-twists, the humor. Everything. Just absolutely spot-on. And I still think I'm done with this fucking show. I'm sick of being emotionally jerked around by a writing staff who just wants to show that they can do it.

Now I know how some of you guys felt at the end of Phyllis's Wedding. Except that was in the middle of the season, and this was at the end.

I'm really fucking pissed. Really.

I thought it was a little anticlimatic that Toby never did anything at the end other than look lovingly at his and Pam's picture. I thought for sure something more was going to happen there with him.

May 15th 2008

No, no, no!

He meant the CN kiss. Which took place right outside Michael's office.

May 15th 2008

And how adorable was Jim when he was coaching Michael through not making an ass of himself by declaring his love for Holly, whom he'd just met! I loved how Jim kept talking about how you can get to know someone slowly at work and really fall in love with them. It was so sweet.

May 15th 2008

Something more like what, ST? Make another pass at Pam?

May 15th 2008

Michael: Who do you think you are?
Toby: Toby.
Michael: Correct.

May 15th 2008

No, I didn't want him to proceed with it after. I just was not at all impressed at that scenario. I guess I've been thinking they were going to have to deal with some life-changing issue (like a death in the family) and that they both would kind of agree that the engagement would have to wait until they got through that together. It just seems almost disrespectful to their strong relationship.

I don't know. Maybe I need to rewatch and shut up until then.

May 15th 2008

I laughed a lot during this episode. That felt good.

I laughed often and also had my hands over my face through all the cringeworthy moments; for me, this indicates just how great this episode was.

May 15th 2008

I would have enjoyed a Jam engagement, but I think I like Dwangela sex even better. Wow! I am so happy, I was hoping for something between them the whole episode and I was so sad for Dwight when Andy proposed and he finally admitted that it was his fault, and then... wow! Do you think he apologized to Angela about Sprinkles and that was what brought them back together?

I'm not to upset about Jim and Pam, because Pratt is great and they do seem so happy. They won't break up over this.

And Ryan! I can't even begin to process how awesome that was yet!

May 15th 2008

I can't believe they built up the proposal for the entire show and then he puts the damn ring back in his pocket! Come on. Couldn't he have done it a few minutes later?

May 15th 2008

For what it's worth, mtt, I'm sorry the episode's end upset you so much.

May 15th 2008

Adorable ++++.

May 15th 2008

Hey, maybe they'll give us a proposal in the deleted scenes. A girl can hope can't she! I'm not as mad as MTT, but I feel like the writers are just trying to stretch out the JAM drama and really for no good reason except the office lives in tvland

May 15th 2008

I thought it was a little anticlimatic that Toby never did anything at the end other than look lovingly at his and Pam's picture. I thought for sure something more was going to happen there with him.

And yet, looking back at who Toby is and how things go for him, there really is no other logical conclusion. For all his trouble and angst from these two seasons, all he got was a picture with her where she wasn't even willing to smile because she was too sad. And so Toby's life of perpetual tragic disappointment continues. Maybe things will turn around for him in Costa Rica.

May 15th 2008

Well, that's twice that Jim was about to have a big, life-changing moment with Pam and had it spoiled by some asshole making a marriage proposal (remember - Roy said the first one didn't count).

I can't believe I didn't think of that mtt. Good point. It really blows, but good point.

He meant the CN kiss. Which took place right outside Michael's office.

Once again, thank you mtt!

Something more like what, ST? Make another pass at Pam?

I really thought Toby was going to try to kiss Pam. Or tell her how he felt. Something.

May 15th 2008

My favorite Part? Watching Ryan being marched off to jail for fraud and Jim calling him to say Eff You, Ryan. Halpert is the man!
