Hey, that was SO MUCH FUN to watch, Brian - wow, thank you! I have to admit though that I could hardly take in what you were saying because I kept "hearing" all the things you've written here instead. Words (pronounced oddly and in very quick succession) would be streaming out of your mouth but all I could see were talk bubbles with your past NA posts appearing instead. My head was swimming trying to reconcile the sound of your voice and the moving image of your face to the persona I've built for you on NA.

Congratulations to you and the other guy for trying the video blog idea. But don't give up writing, it would be a huge loss if you did.

ETA Did I mention that you're ADORABLE?

Oct 2nd 2007

Uh oh, someone's got a crush on Brian... :)

I watched it too but hadn't posted a comment because I didn't quite know how to say what Wink just said above. Me too that. It's a little surreal to see the real Brian talking. In a cool way. Looking forward to more!

I know I do. Mission accomplished: ego stroked.

Sincere thanks Wink, glad you enjoyed it. You know that overwhelming fear of public speaking most everyone of us has, the one that induces vomiting like a pickles-and-salmon-milkshake? I think I signed up for this to help finally get over that. Whatever doesn't kill me only makes me stronger. I hope.

Gotta go work on that elocution now.

Oct 2nd 2007

I didn't think you had an accent, if that helps. But I am from the same general area of the country, and I think everyone can figure out at least the state from my sports talk lately. :-)

Oct 2nd 2007

Public speaking is fun, once you get used to it. The adrenaline rush is GREAT.

Finally watched it as well. Kudos, Brian; I'd never be brave enough to post a video blog.

Yeah, I hear you. I have to speak in public every day (that's what teaching is), and it has literally taken me a decade to feel comfortable speaking extemporaneously.

Good for you! Can't wait to hear/see the next one; you'll continue to post links, yes?

I didn't think you had an accent.

I did. Not a judgement; everyone has an accent, excepting national TV news people.

Oct 3rd 2007

so, which one's brian?

hey guy i found your link during work so i put it aside and just now got back to it. it was a great job. i'm not just blowing smoke up your skirt (thoughi couldnt see if you were wearing one or not). it was chock full of interesting points and all delivered just like you were sitting around having a conversation with us. not looking at the camera might be my only leetle quibble. i get accused of talking to fast in presentations and things, too. i dont think you did.

now, the bad news. if you are going to be in television, you two have to sit uncomfortably close to each other. don't worry, to us it will look perfectly normal. but, that guy walking through in the background, he's gonna think you guys are well bestest friends. people think that wearing make-up is the most uncomfortable thing for guys on tv. nope. its the sitting uncomfortably close to other guys in the middle of a large open space thing.

Oct 3rd 2007

i get accused of talking to fast in presentations and things, too. i dont think you did.

I think you talked fast, Brian, but I liked it. The other guy talked fast too (Chris?). It was just like a real conversation, casual, with off the cuff comments and lots of banter. It's not like you were giving a speech or presenting instructions, after all.

Oct 3rd 2007

Hey Brian, I finally got a chance to watch this and it was very cool. You did talk fast, but I just assumed it was a New York thing. The only thing I would suggest (and it's not like I've ever done this before, so take it for what it's worth, which is nothing) is to look at your co-worker a little more. You stared straight ahead almost the entire time, and it kind of threw off the conversation, made it seem a tiny bit awkward. The other guy did a good job of varying his looks between the camera and looking briefly at you. I know the format is to make it seem like you guys were addressing us, the audience, but I think you should acknowledge each other a little more. Maybe tilt your chairs slightly toward each other or sit closer like ferd suggested. But a great job, takes courage to do something like that, courage I probably wouldn't have.

Oct 4th 2007

It's a total goof and not essential to my job at all, but if I come away with some public speaking experience, then it's a good thing. Your guys' feedback is awesome and will be taken to heart. We're going to make the segments less than half as long from now on, and do separate spots on The Office and 30 Rock. We're limited by the crummy built-in camera in that we have to be on top of each other and yet still try to look comfortable and be conversational. And I'd still like to have something coherent to say on the topic, which is made easier by hanging out here and stealing all your good ideas. There will be future NA shout-outs, some possibly blatantly obvious.

Oct 4th 2007

you guys need to do talking heads.

chris: two words three syllables. demarcation. if brian moves any closer...

brian: my wife is european so....

Oct 7th 2007

Is this a plug? Not sure. But it's a link from tanster's Weekend Tally, so you might have seen it already. I think it's fun. Invitation to Scranton

Oct 7th 2007

Does that mean you've changed your mind and you plan to pony up some cash to go? I'm still waffling.

Oct 8th 2007

The problem is, I would have to steal a pony and sell it on the black pony market to swing the trip at this point. Actually, I can't even afford waffles right now.

Oct 8th 2007

You mean your video hasn't brought you world-wide fame and riches beyond compare yet? May I suggest showing off your funky dance moves next time? Maybe a wink or two at the camera? Girls love that.

(Says the woman who just poured out the very last of the cereal for her 4 year old. Being poor suuuuucks.)

My first ever FNL review is posted at The Two Cents, in case anyone needs reading material for this morning/afternoon/evening.

Nice work, Brian. Even though you still talked fast, you looked into the camera a lot more. And I thought it was cute when you both simultaneously imitated Kelly's head shake.

Oct 10th 2007

Wow!

You practiced or something because last week it was quite clear that you were uncomfortable with the whole 'camera' thing and now it's like you're best friends. Brian have you taken this week to WBHF your camera? Good for you!

(regular plain old boring digital air high five) Seriously. That was great. Both vids. More more!

Oct 10th 2007

FirstofallSingleTearthat'showfastweNewYawkastalksomaybeyoushouldlistenfaster.

But yeah I took all the good advice I got here to heart. It does look better when you actually look at the camera. We also shortened them a lot. Instead of one 9-minute video, we did two that are under 4 minutes apiece.

So thanks for the feedback. And Anque, WBHF'ing your webcam counts as unsafe surfing, so be careful.

Oct 11th 2007

Stupid site has been down for like 18 hours now.

Oct 11th 2007

Oh no! That sucks. Since it's sort of your workplace do you get to go home?

Oct 11th 2007

Unfortunately, they find other (less fun) stuff for me to do.

Oct 11th 2007 edited

I've been making a concerted effort to stay out of all but a few threads (the not enough hours in the day thing) so I just peeked in here to see what the recent activity was.

must see video blog.

If and when the site ever gets up again, can you please post an announcement, Brian?

Oct 11th 2007

My insatiable craving for attention wouldn't have it any other way ;)

Oct 11th 2007

Wait the video blog isn't working? I forgot to watch it yesterday and just now noticed it's not working.

Oct 11th 2007 edited

I don't know what the dealio is. We have like 35 active blogs, and the whole system's been down for an entire day.

eta: if the name Dunder Mifflin Infinity wasn't taken, I'd suggest it.

Oct 14th 2007

Dang blogs are still down three days later. They've set up a temporary home where I went on this rant, in which I think everyone can find something to disagree with. Wish I could show off my videos from the other day, though. I'm going solo this week.

Oct 14th 2007

I think everyone can find something to disagree with

I couldn't find anything. Spot on, all of it, especially your line about Jim & Pam getting together:

It's time.
