Jan creeps me out. Paying Michael? Having Hunter on the phone? shudder

May 4th 2007

Me too. Every time she comes on the screen now I just yell "Foliage! Foliage!" but she pretends not to hear.

May 4th 2007

Haha!!

How in the world did Michael choose "foliage?" I would love to have heard that conversation.

May 4th 2007

Remember when Jan was worried about collapsing in on herself like a dying star? Yeah, I think that happened.

May 4th 2007

Every day, I bet Gould counts his lucky stars he cut loose of that crazy woman.

May 6th 2007

I hope to God it really is over.

May 7th 2007

Michael and Jan, yea, they're hardly over. This is all just setting up for the future of Michael and Jan together. Coming together, breaking apart, coming together, breaking apart. It's just the beginning for Michael and Jan folks.

May 7th 2007

Jan trying to "get Michael back" could be a hilarious role reversal.

May 7th 2007

Didn't she say she was unusually litigious in one of the deleted scenes from Cocktails? Michael signed a love contract... but did he read the find print?

May 7th 2008

With all the season 4 Jan/Michael stuff, how is it possible this thread has laid dormant for a year. Well, a year and one day.

May 8th 2008

With the size of Jan's boobs, how is it possible this thread has laid dormant for a year. Well, a year and one day.

Fixed that for ya. :-)

May 8th 2008

Seriously. Nothing for all that time.

May 8th 2008

I'm just going to continue to post in here until we get a higher post count. It's a shame that this place doesn't have more posts.

Would one call this thread 'fluffing'?

May 8th 2008

I'd say it's thread-stuffing. You're continually stuffing this thread, over and over again.

Okay, here's a substantive Jachael question. Why do we seem to be so little invested in the relationship between these characters? Did the writers/actors not make them or the relationship real enough? Were they just too unattractive/insane for us to care? Did it never seem like anything was at stake in their story?

Can I ask more questions?

May 8th 2008

I care about Micheal because it was obvious that Jan was so mean to him. I mean, yeah, sometimes he says the wrong thing but he mostly always means well. I do feel bad for Jan because she lost her marbles. Maybe she'll find them while she spends some time in Scottsdale with her sister...although, didn't she say that her family doesn't talk to her on advice of counsel or something? Maybe Michael and this whole relationship ordeal caused her to reconnect with her family.

May 8th 2008

I think there are a lot of reasons people aren't invested in this relationship, but I think partially it's that it's a relationship between two people who just aren't that likeable. They're both people who show flashes of humanity, but Jan, at first, really felt like a boss -- strict, authoritarian, always killing the fun -- and Michael is Michael. They're people we occasionally feel sorry for, but they're not people we genuinely like.

I think there's also an extent to which I, for one, never took it seriously, at first because Michael seemed like too much of a child for Jan, and then, later, because Jan seemed like too much of a nut for Michael. I guess perhaps it's years of training, but one comes to expect happy endings from his blah blah blah blah blah blah . . .

Sorry, just got tired of the sound of my own voice. Or the sight of my own typing, anyway.

May 8th 2008

There's also no hope in this relationship. You hoped Jim and Pam would get together. You hope Dwight and Angela get back together. For a time there I even hoped Andy and Angela would be a happy couple, if only because he seemed so earnest and for the first time empathetic when he serenaded her like Dwight never would have. But Jan and Michael? I only hope she goes far away and he finds someone who actually cares for him.

I agree with Brian and DftF.

What are you guys staring at? That's rude!

Anyway, Jim & Pam bring out the best in each other. Dwight & Angela...well...even they could occasionally have a humanizing effect on each other (Benihana Christmas). Jan and Michael was just so bad!!

May 8th 2008 edited

I've never cared for Jan & Michael partly because I've never been into the character of Jan or Melora the actress and partly because I want Michael to be at least somewhat happy and he never will be with Jan.

If it were up to me I never would have put the two of them together. I much preferred the dynamic of Jan as the harried, exasparated corporate boss and Michael as the employee that pined after her but would never get her and drove her crazy. I think they could have kept Jan in her corporate role and found another corporate position for Ryan that would have enabled them to tell the same story with him they are telling today.

May 8th 2008

I never felt for Jan and Michael because they never seemed real to me. Their characters together were just not that relatable, while Jim and Pam's relationship is very relatable. It was easy to see how much in love Jim was, and many times, how in love Pam was, and why. Michael's attraction to Jan seemed to be all physical, especially after the boob enhancement. It seems cartoonish to me, and I don't think we were ever supposed to care for them. I can relate to and feel for Michael by himself, and to Jan by herself, but not to them together.

I disagree. I didn't necessarily like them together, but you can only tell the same storyline over and over for so long. At some point you have to advance the story, see where you land, and go from there.
