so... what's at the top of your music playlist?
I've got some Beulah, Voxtrot (mp3), White Rose Movement, White Stripes, Pas/Cal in my current playlist.
That Voxtrot song is catchy stuff. I'll have to add their EP to my to-buy list at Remember the Milk.
I've been on a steady rotation lately between Belle and Sebastian (The Life Pursuit), Okkervil River (Black Sheep Boy Appendix), Rock Kills Kid (EP), and Kelley Stoltz (Below Branches).
I'm not too much for newer stuff anymore... I feed myself a steady diet of Barenaked Ladies.
Let's see... Rilo Kiley, Of Montreal, Death Cab for Cutie, Over the Rhine, The Elected, Charlemagne, Belle and Sebastian, Jenny Lewis, The Stars, Tegan and Sara, Lassie Foundation... and of course the Office theme song, because it makes me smile whenever I hear it. I'm still trying to find a way to make it my ringtone. I think my phone's too old school for this fancy mp3 technology. Anyone an Of Montreal fan? I saw them in LA for the first time a couple of weeks ago. They are quite the punchy bunch and I loved it.
A fellow Beulah fan! Patrick, you sir, have doubly good taste. I was quite distraught at their breakup.
Anyway, new musical infatuations: Wolf Parade, Jenny Lewis, Andrew Bird, Neko Case, the new Flaming Lips album; Old stalwarts: Ben Folds, Weezer, Pixies, Old 97's.
Anyone an Of Montreal fan?
I'm a HUGE fan. Saw them last fall in Charlotte, NC. They were just so much fun to watch and hear... the songs are even funkier and greater in person, I think.
Fell in love with them with Satanic Panic, but almost everything they've released I've loved. Not a big of their first album (sacrilege, I think, to some...) and their early demos (Dustin Hoffmann...) -- not a big fan of lo-fi really, I suppose. But Gay Parade, Coquelicot, Aldhils, Satanic Panic (obviously), and Sunlandic Twins are all of very high quality.
I'm hoping they release a new album this year... I think he mentioned there would be a new album in his interview with the onion's AV club.
And for good measure!
Top 10 Songs:
(and that's a very rough top 10... I'm missing many, it could easily be a top 25 with lots of ties...)

Tell me about, the fact that I never got to see them live will forever haunt me :(.
My music tastes are varied, I guess. On one hand, I really like Franz Ferdinand, The Bravery, and Beck. On the other, I'm a big fan of Belle and Sebastian, Ben Folds, and Brendan James. Oh, and Kanye's pretty good too.
I love Of Montreal too! I also love: The Notwists, Wilco, The Postal Service, The Shins, Third Eye Blind, The Flaming Lips, Pete Yorn, The Byrds, Ben Kweller, Tom Petty, Kanye West, The Decemberists and too many more to list.
The Stars
I saw these guys in San Francisco last year. Damn good show, I'm digging the Canadian invasion. Amy Millan had a new pickup line for the audience during every break, so yeah, it was great.
Oh, and as far as the music goes, it's tough to beat Elevator Love Letter, though Your Ex-Lover is Dead and He Lied About Death come close.
Wow, good stuff. I'm very happy to hear that you people have wonderful tastes in music as well as TV.
And my friends wonder why I hang out at my computer more than with them. None of my friends have even heard of Okkervil or The Stars, which is weird because I live in the birthplace of The Shins.
But onto another topic, (I didn't know where to post this) how do you think the show is going to justify a documentary crew following the Dunder Mifflin employees around for 3+ years (or however long the show lasts)?
I wasn't sure which thread to post this in, but I was wondering if anyone can post a link or direct me to the Pepsi commercial with John Krasinski in it. I heard that it exists but haven't been able to find it.
Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.
Stella- I used the website http://mobile17.smashsworld.com to convert the Office theme song (and others) from mp3s into ringtones. Hopefully that works for you.
Ok my current playlist mostly consists of...The Decemberists (all of Picaresque plus Billy the Liar), Neutral Milk Hotel, Postal Service (the cover of Against All Odds somehow always sneaks its way in), Matt Pond PA, Mogwai, The Format (On Your Porch is one of the few songs I Ever put on repeat), The Shins, Damien Rice, Nick Drake, Sigur Ros, Alexi Murdoch, Broken Social Scene, T.Rex, U2, and some Blur. It changes quite often though. I named the playlist MellOlyn, because I pun for myself.
Very Good Bread-I have wondered that myself. I also worry about the show in the respect that: I don't want to wait forever for Jim and Pam to get together (or not); But...I don't want to think about the show ending after the 3rd season; And...I don't know how much longer the show could go on after the Jam apex. I love all the other characters but I feel like Jam has really been one of the main focuses (The Bread and Jam of the show, if you like).
What other shows do you guys watch on TV?
We were playing name your top five television shows at work yesterday.
My top top five:
The Office, Battlestar Galactice (I'm not usually a sci fan, but I'm hooked on this one, The Sopranos, The Daily Show, and Lost (although my interest is starting to fade)
Also in the mix: Entourage, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Earl, and my guilty pleasure Project Runway - "Where the hell is my chiffon?"
Top five shows, eh?
Obviously The Office above everything else.
Then Lost (although I'm in the same boat as Chip and see it on the verge of jumping the shark... the backstory in Wednesday's episode wasn't even a backstory! What's up with that?!?!), My Name Is Earl, Family Guy, and Da Ali G Show (Booyakasha!)
hmm... other shows
24, Scrubs, Lost, Monk
and guilty pleasure is How I Met Your Mother. The Barney character is just class... and Alyson Hannigan + Ashley Williams on one show = good viewing.
Also watch Daily Show & Colbert Report when new...
ohh... forgot Prison Break. Guess that's what a 3-4 month break does to you :>!
ohh... forgot Prison Break. Guess that's what a 3-4 month break does to you :>!
Patrick, new episodes start on March 20th! Woo-hoo!
Hmm...my top 5 tv shows are:
And my favourite movie of all-time is Oldboy.
Chip I'm glad someone else loves Project Runway. Though I think I may have liked season 1 better. Everyone this season seems to be not quite at the same level as the first cast. I hope Santino wins. Anyone? I can't wait for Wednesday :)
The Office (duh)
Lost (although this season is driving me crazy)
Cold Case Files on A&E (morbid, I know)
The Daily Show (I heart Jon Stewart)
Arrested Development (I'm still holding out hope that this isn't the last we've seen of the Bluths)
Number one, hands down, The Office, of course
Scrubs
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Arrested Development
Da Ali G Show
My current favorites:
Second tier:
I guess I should post mine.
-The Office
-Grey's Anatomy
-House
-The majority of 'original series' on HBO (I am really looking forward to the return of Deadwood, Entourage, and of course, The Sopranos. I'm also planning to watch the show, Big Love). I have never seen Da Ali G Show.
-Family Guy
There are plenty of others; I am addicted to DVR, and I am not a critical viewer. I record everything from Family Feud to Law and Order.
Last night's 24 was just immense. Easily the best sho... drama (!!) on television at the moment
James, Lost was demoted to second tier?
Yeah, that makes sense. Season 1 was much better, wasn't it?
I was in Home Depot a couple of hours ago and what should be playing on their music system...it was "Sing" by Travis :-) I'm positive, because I heard it from the very beginning and was in there for most of the song. Isn't it strange that this would be playing on a programmed music system in a retail store chain? It's not a big song, is it?
